On Thursday while we were out having lunch with friends at the local Farmer’s Market, WickedGirl fell off of a park bench. She went down directly onto her head, and all of her weight followed. There was a disgusting thump and then a huge scream. I felt like the loser mom of the year for letting my daughter sit on the table (where she was climbing down from when she fell). Anyhow, the thump had been her noggin, which was now home to a very large bump. It was complete with broken blood vessels and a gigantic bruise. She was embarrassed from the fall, winded from the landing, and must have had a banging headache. Needless to say: tears o’ plenty. I ran around trying to find some ice. I stole a plastic bag from the organic fruit stand and asked the nice ladies that I’d bought lunch from (in the Italian restaurant) to fill with ice for me to soothe WG’s head. When the window-worker was filling the bag, one of the cooks came running out with a clean dishrag and said YOU NEED THIS!! When she handed it to me, she said to my daughter “Boo-Boo Bunny Makes It Better!!”. I looked down, and she’d put a rubber band around the dish rag, and put some ice in it, making it the cutest little icepack bunny ever! (The photo above is of the actual Farmer’s Market Boo-Boo Bunny!)
WickedGirl almost always stops crying from injury within 3 minutes. This injury took 35 minutes to stop making a scene, had recovering sobbing bouts, and even included a nap that was difficult to awaken her from that motivated me to have a medical professional see her. For hours after the fall, my girl held her bunny and repeatedly told me “boo-boo bunny make better!” Yes it does!! I looked online and found a how-to on these bunnies. I will certainly be making some of my own! This one didn’t have eyes, and I won’t be putting them on my others either. All I need is a hair elastic and a wash cloth to make my daughter take an ice pack when injured? FOR SURE!!!
Side Note: WickedGirl is fine. She had a “medically significant hematoma” which translates to “big, big, egg and bruise…” but was able to come home on Tylenol. It was an hour and a half in the ER, but worth it for my sanity.
Note: WickedHubby pointed out that the video didn’t tell you where to put the ice?! Ridiculous, since that’s the entire point! Ok, see the hole behind the “ears”? That’s where the ice goes. It holds 2 ice cubes when you use a face cloth :).
