My list of upcoming blog topics includes several posts regarding childproofing. Everyone has their own idea about this topic, and obviously I do too. Today’s blog is just to remind you that perhaps the best principle in childproofing is the idea that just because a child has not done something BEFORE does not mean that they won’t do it NOW or in the FUTURE. Case in point: My 2 year old has always liked my computer, but has never harmed it. It has always seemed especially safe when the cover is down. On the 20th of this month, I was very proud of myself. I was packing to go on a vacation, the house was very organized and clean, and I had removed all (I thought) necessary materials for AJs safety. WRONG. While I was downstairs for 5 minutes cleaning up her playroom, my beautiful two year old helped herself to my laptop. She opened the lid, and proceeded to rip 28 keys off of the keyboard… She then went on to remove the clips for 4 or 5 of them, and the actual plungers for 3. Several of the keys couldn’t be put back on. Total Childproofing Fail. Just because you have never seen your child do X does not mean that they are not capable of those actions. There were many shenanigans involved in my laptop’s repair. Thankfully, the cost to me was nothing due to my warranty. Lesson learned. Laptops should not be EVER left unattended!

PS: My computer is now fixed… And I want to make sure to note that this was the reason for my recent failure to comply with my 365 challenge. For sure, there is an exception to the rule when half of your keyboard is removed. Now that it is back, I will be better about staying on track :).
