Sometimes I find myself faced with a puzzle in life without the box that gives me a clear picture as to my final goal. I think I have it figured out and then BOOM, a squiggly piece with an unexpected corner. What the heck is this piece?! Who put this bump in my otherwise smooth road?! Blah. It can come in the form of a change-up in schedule, a blown-out diaper, a delayed delivery, or even just stepping on a lego (I’m serious, those things are crippling!), but whatever form it takes, it stops me in my tracks. From that position, I have a few choices: cry, get mad, get motivated, let it go, or just change perspective. Turn the piece around and it looks completely different from another angle. One step at a time is the only way to achieve your goal, and as in the cha-cha, some of those steps are going to have to be backwards, wearing high heels and a blindfold, balancing on the edge of a cliff. On the days I choose to get motivated, change perspective, put my head down and keep taking it as it comes, sometimes I achieve my goal. On those days, and on days where I just have to reward myself for letting go, or understanding it isn’t as big a deal as I thought, and when I didn’t blurt out the four-letter words that raced to my lips, as I fell going up the stairs while little eyes were watching me carry too much up the stairs at once, I reward myself with a treat. Tonight it was ice cream. Coffee, in case you’re curious. :). Reward yourself for the small victories, and the big ones. Take it one step at a time, and you’ll get there… at least that’s what I’m telling myself… repeatedly.
