In my house growing up, we had a set of blocks that were my mom’s. They had numbers on each block, and you would set them in a variety of orders so that they could spell out things. We displayed them over our porch slider. I used to get really excited about changing the message each season, and redecorating the shelf over the door (see upcoming post). When it came time to raise my own kids, I decided that we needed our own set of message blocks! I looked high and low, but couldn’t find any that were as nice as the ones Mom has, until this past Christmas. I found them online! They are called Chatterblocks. I showed Mom, and she ended up getting a set for each of the four of us! These babies spell out over 250 sayings, plus whatever you come up with creatively on your own… While they don’t have the number/code attribute that the old set has, these blocks are very fun, and offer a conversation piece in our home. We show ours on top of a curio in our dining room. Rather than the colorful letters that Mom has, these have chocolate colored letters on a cream background. I like both for different reasons, but these ones fit well in our decor. I suppose that you could make your own, and there are websites online to do just that if you so choose. Heads up: There is a wide variety in the pricing for these blocks. I have seen them as high as $70 and as low as $45-50. Shop around! It’s worth the savings. The same company makes all of the ones that I found, so why pay more?!

What about your family? Do you have any awesome traditions that you’d like to share? I have a few more from growing up that I will be repeating in my house, and a few more up my sleeve that I want to start for myself! Share yours! Maybe there’s something that will inspire the great memories that you have for someone else!!
