I have been doing a lot of reflection this week. Time just goes by too fast. Everyone says it, and we all go through phases where we realize how true it is. I keep thinking of the line from that Alabama song, “I’m in a hurry to get things done. Oh, I rush and rush until life’s no fun. All I’ve really gotta do is live and die, but I’m in a hurry and don’t know why.” Priorities aren’t easy to keep in line when things seem to require immediate attention, when they’re not really important. Sometimes we have to say no. Sometimes to ourselves. Sometimes  to other people. Neither is fun. Sometimes we just have to get organized and have a better plan. That’s my goal because my son turned 6 months old this week, and his whole life seems to be one big blur so far. I want to live with purpose. I want to deliberately make time to savor these moments. They go by too fast.

I took this picture while I was trying to get the actual shot for my Fauxto Friday. The ones I was trying to get didn’t speak to me. This one did. Its a Tahoe going by my husband and I as we stood with our camera mounted on a tripod and our new shutter remote taking pictures on the side of a local road with an amazing view. We were playing with our new equipment (I’m lucky. Hubs has decided to have an interest in photography because he loves me and wants to get into what interests me.) when the car whipped by. There’s actually a 25mph sign right to the right of this picture. That’s why the guy hit the brakes. Sometimes we see signs in life that tell us to slow down. This picture reminded me of that lesson.  Our kids were waiting in the minivan watching a movie while we were shooting. When we finished (5 minutes later), we got back in the car. I made him stop for milkshakes for us all on the way home. Because sometimes, the calories are worth making a family memory. Because that’s what is really important. Not getting the right shot every time. Not even the pictures. It’s what’s in them and behind them. It’s family. Reminder received.
